Telepractice Today: Stephanie Taylor Discusses Tele-Assessment

Stephanie Taylor, Ed.S, NCSP

Recently Stephanie Taylor, Ed.S, NCSP, clinical director of psychoeducational services at PresenceLearning, sat down with Teletherapy Today hosts, Kim Dutro Allen and Dr. K Todd Houston, to share her insights on the benefits of remote evaluations for students with special needs and to suggest strategies for providers adjusting to an online environment. Once therapists embrace tele-assessment and teletherapy, they move beyond phase 1 (translating in-person to online services) and are able to shift their focus, she said.

“Those who embrace the second step of innovation…those who are able to say—’Now that I am remote, what can I actually do differently than when I was in person?’—that’s the step that, once [therapists] do that, they are moving mountains.”

If your school district is trying to address a backlog of evaluations, it may make sense to incorporate tele-assessment into your service delivery model. Listen in as Stephanie shares her strategies and insights on the Telepractice Today podcast.

Almost everyone who has done tele-assessment will say that the giving of the test in that moment—the pure administration of the test—is very similar to what you’ve done in person….so if you’re comfortable with it in person, you tend to be comfortable with it remotely.
