CASE STUDY
Spanning 12 districts, 5 public school academies, and 22 non-public schools in Michigan, Saginaw Intermediate School District (ISD) is an educational service agency. It provides innovative learning programs to a diverse student body of over 26,000 students.
Saginaw’s mission to “serve, innovate, and empower” faced a logistical roadblock: too few clinicians and social workers to serve their students. That’s when they turned to Presence for help.
Services delivered
Staffing fluctuations and overall clinical shortages left Saginaw ISD in need of in-person school social workers, school psychologists, and speech-language pathologists (SLPs). This gap placed added stress on existing staff and contributed to overwhelming caseloads. Without a robust team to address students in need, the district was headed for special education backlogs, prolonged service holdups, and serious compliance issues.
Saginaw ISD partnered with Presence to implement a comprehensive teletherapy program to address staffing shortages and expand support for students. Starting with counseling and behavior intervention support and ultimately expanding into speech-language services, the new program provided targeted interventions to ensure students received specialized support.
Saginaw ISD’s partnership with Presence has strengthened its ability to stay compliant with service delivery standards and ensure students receive timely evaluations and interventions.
For onsite teams, adding virtual support was transformative. By sharing the caseload, Presence enabled staff to focus more fully on their students, fostering a sustainable and collaborative approach to delivering essential services. Caseloads became more manageable, and turnover was minimized as onsite workflow improved. Together, Saginaw ISD and Presence built a framework that met the district’s needs, exceeding expectations for what’s possible.
THE ROAD TO SUCCESS
Chelsea Korzecki, Saginaw ISD’s district champion, has played a key role in integrating Presence clinicians into everyday school life and guiding them through the district’s internal systems. By collaborating with remote clinicians, the district has expanded access to specialized services, ensuring that every student receives the support they need to thrive.
LOOKING AHEAD
Saginaw ISD and Presence are committed to reaching even more students in the coming years. With plans to expand teletherapy services to additional schools and increase the number of students served annually, the district is setting a new standard for accessible, multidisciplinary care.
