Leveraging ESSER Funding to Improve Student Access

, Primary Category: Funding Resources

The Department of Education (DOE) is rolling out eagerly awaited guidance about the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The resources address the confusion and barriers caused by the pandemic and clarify that, regardless of the modality of delivery (online, in-person, or hybrid), the obligation to screen for learning and attention issues, revise and update individual education plans (IEPs), and serve students with the resources and technology all remain in place. The DOE will not and cannot lessen these responsibilities. They are helping school officials navigate the pandemic’s challenges, enhance the standard of practice necessary to provide a free appropriate public education (FAPE), and effectively utilize the historic ESSER funds
