Clinician Spotlight: Hollie F.

Hollie F., CCC-SLP, graduated with her speech language pathology degree from Missouri State University and has been a practicing SLP for 12 years. We interviewed her to understand how she collaborates with the school partners she supports:

How has the PL online platform enabled you to help your students and the schools you serve in new ways?

The PL platform has enabled me to increase students’ success toward goal mastery by providing essential assessment and treatment materials at my fingertips. The ability to document goal progress during the session is priceless. My productivity is maximized and my time can be spent focusing on face to face interactions with the students.

Can you tell us a little about how you collaborate with teachers and other school staff members?

Collaboration with teachers and school staff requires a multimodality approach. Communication is key to meeting everyone’s diverse communication needs. I always make notes about the key contacts at each district and how and when they prefer to communicate about services.

How do you build trust and rapport with parents?

Building trust and rapport with parents is similar to a brick and mortar setting. Phone calls and emails are always available when necessary. I attend IEP meetings by video when possible and enjoy asking the students to introduce me to their parents during the meeting. The students love showing off how much they enjoy getting their services online. When appropriate, I send home extensions to activities we have completed during sessions and/or homework.

What advice would you give districts considering online therapy?

School districts, parents, and students see excellent outcomes with online therapy. Services are provided efficiently. Students are engaged and motivated. Outcomes are excellent. It’s a win-win for everyone.

Are you interested in expanding your special education program to include teletherapy services? There are nearly 1,000 contracted clinicians in the PresenceLearning Care Network. PresenceLearning contracted clinicians carry a master’s degree in their field, have onsite school experience, and are required to keep active credentials in the states where they provide services.
